What we do: Our weekly meetings are round-table discussions on various topics. We cover everything from religion and politics (and the clash between the two) to ghosts, astronomy, or any other area which we percieve could use a good dose of critical examination.

Are we anti-religious: No. Our group respects others' rights to believe as they wish. We do not think that those who believe are inferior in any way, and we actually encourage people of any faith or no faith alike to join our group to talk about issues they consider important. The only thing we ask is that anyone who joins be prepared to have their beliefs examined and criticized.

Where we stand on paranormal / alternative medicine / etc issues: Is there solid, incontrovertible evidence for it? If not, we doubt it's a real phenomenon. By 'doubt', though, we do not mean deny. We mean we are waiting for solid, scientific proof, and until then, we will continue to confront and debate anyone who claims it's real.

Do we believe that science is the final word on truth: Science is not necessarily the truth, but is the closest approximation that we have to the truth. By its nature, scientific knowledge is tentative. However, this is where its strength comes from; the ability to change and adapt as new evidence demands. Science is not knowledge acquired through revelation, but knowledge acquired through experimentation and empirical evidence that is subject to peer review, skepticism, and, most importantly, repetition. As such we uphold that science is our most potent tool for understanding the beautiful and wondrous universe that we inhabit.
